1965 Ford F100

A build journey

my first picture of her, a baby pic of sorts i s'pose. Beauty few of us can prolly see. i saw it immediately, what a gem!!

Called my good friend Ben (buddiesgarage.com) who agreed to grab a two wheel dolly and his killer lowered 8 lug, Cummins powered Dodge. We drove deep down into Alabama to rescue this beauty!

returning home the passenger rear tire blew out just in to Tennessee. We remembered to bring a small aluminum floor jack with us that saved the day. We had to resecure the bed as it slid over, causing the torn tire.
after getting her safely in to my carport it was time for the initial once over. Nearly rust free cab (aside from floorboards), somewhat well taken care of, a nice surprise.
Rear end aside from surface rust was in good order and the engine bay looked like a rats nest disaster. But after a fresh battery connected and tracing a wire or two and changing the oil actually started and ran. not great but it ran, held decent oil pressure, didnt knock or have a lot of valvetrain noise. Doesnt matter too much, this will be rebuilt or replaced at some point down the road i suspect.
The original 240 straight six was replaced with an early 80's 351 Windsor. quite frankly my choice carburated 8cyl Ford engine. now hear me out, before condemning the windsor over the 351 Cleveland. Sure the Cleveland is the cooler engine, the enthuiasts golden egg. but it is also rare and expensive and the past 20 years aftermarket products have been good to the Windsor, there are plenty of affordable options. But most importantly, the windsor was used for over 20 years, in everything from cars, vans and trucks to boats and whatever else. meaning, lotsa parts out there.
These front drum brakes are gonna be upgraded soon but for now gonna give whats here a once over. new lines, shoes and wheel cylinders around. seized parking brake cable replaced as well.
Well, shes ugly, smokes and hasnt much get up and go but stops well. Drives like a boat but is ON THE ROAD!!
Now that the bare essentials are covered, is time to get to work. Both floorboards were rotted out but wasnt any surprise, havent had any that werent... aside from that and a small section of cab mount, this cab is fairly straight.

New floorboards welded in, Fat Mat lined the cab and doors, shuts like an old caddy now!
Found a steering wheel from a 1971 at the junkyard. Every seal and both window regulators replaced.
Never drill through carpet, i use a large center punch chisel heated with a torch. melts a nice clean, seared hole for the seat mount bolts.
Nothin makes sumpin look better faster than new carpet and the seat cover while better than it looks, needs to be replaced with something with more personality, good enuf for now tho.

Starting to take shape, time to address that old 2bbl carburetor and 2v intake. Wake this old girl up a little bit!

Test drive for a fill up of 87 octane fuel, no high compression engine here. But still have that big elephant in the room left to address, negative camber. Time to take a running, driving vehicle out of commission for a while
